GREAT OLD BROADS FOR WILDERNESS 605 E. Seventh Avenue
|
Sign Broads' Wilderness Petition20 years ago, a group of women took exception to a position taken by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). Sen. Hatch opposed wilderness designation, in part, because, it would prevent the construction of roads. His argument at that time was that we need roads throughout public land so the elderly can have access. Those women, in 1989, formed an organization called Great Old Broads for Wilderness to show Sen. Hatch and others who would use us as scapegoats for their political agendas, the error of their ways. Here at our 20th Anniversary, Broads is intent on sending the message to Sen. Hatch that we do NOT want roads tracking across our pristine public lands, that we will fight for the designation of more Wilderness with a capital "W," and we will fight against the incursion of roads (whether for "elderly access," recreation, or oil and gas development) into wilderness quality lands. For a downloadable pdf document of the full text of our petition, click here. For more information send an e-mail to broads@greatoldbroads.org or call Broads office at 970-385-9577. If you think, as we do, that wilderness areas should remain roadless, please sign our e-petition. We'll make sure Sen. Hatch gets the message.
