Broadband Leadership FAQs

What are Broadband Leaders?

Broadband Leaders are volunteers who are passionate about bringing change and helping others find their voices to:

  • Help promote wilderness designation
  • Protect and preserve our wild public lands
  • Participate in advocacy campaigns locally and nationwide

Our leaders are grandparents, mothers, hikers, writers, artists, musicians, financial advisers, teachers, biologists, civil servants, business owners, public speakers, event planners….and the list goes on. It’s this variety of experience and backgrounds that makes our leadership teams so successful.

We train our leaders in an annual grassroots leadership training and present educational webinars throughout the year. We work with you to develop the essential skills required to lead and motivate others in effective and meaningful grassroots organizing techniques. Some chapters create “leadership teams” to share leadership responsibilities, with co-leaders spearheading the issues close to their hearts.

What is the Wilderness Advocacy Training Session? Can I go?

Our Wilderness Advocacy Training Session (WALTS) is an annual  grassroots leadership training held in early spring for anyone interested in joining our Grassroots Leadership Team as a volunteer Broadband chapter leader.

The week-long training is an excellent way to learn about and improve your skills in grassroots advocacy, leadership, public outreach, and issue development. We provide you with the tools to be an effective leader, an empowered advocate, and a dedicated steward to our land—and, it’s a lot of fun!

We host speakers, facilitate small and large group discussions, and take a little time to hike and explore the area where we hold our training.  Our leaders are responsible for transportation to and from the training, and we cover the rest. Space is limited to give leaders a quality learning experience.  Click HERE for more information and to apply.

I’m ready to get more involved and would like to lead a chapter or join a chapter as a co-leader. Where in the world do I start?
