Formed in August of 2013, the Cascade Volcanoes Broadband has a core group of members excited that a chapter of Great Old Broads for Wilderness is now in Portland-Vancouver. We are getting to know each other through hikes, potlucks, and planning outreach to more new members.
Range: Based in Portland-Vancouver, Cascade Volcanoes Broadband area includes the Gifford Pinchot NF (Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams) and Mt. Hood NF as well as the beautiful Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
Advocating for New Wilderness Areas: to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, our broadband is collaborating with Oregon Wild to create more wilderness areas in the Mt. Hood National Forest. We will meet with the staffs of Senator Merkley and Wyden and Representative Blumenauer to advocate for Tamanawas Falls as a potential wilderness site.
Preserving Wilderness, Advocating: joined with other environmental groups in a rally to encourage Senator Wyden to stop clearcuts on 2.8 million acres of environmentally sensitive federal lands (O & C land); hikes with a purpose to learn about environmental damage on federal land.
On-the-Ground-Collaboration: supporting other conservation groups in Washington and Oregon by clearing and building trails, removing invasive plants, planting native plants.
