TUESDAY, AUGUST 1 FROM 1:00 PM
TO SATURDAY, AUGUST 5 AT 10:00 AM CT
Location: Bovey, MN
This year we are taking a deep dive into bogs. We will travel to the international research center known as “Spruce”.  The experimental work is being conducted in a Picea mariana [black spruce] Sphagnum bog forest in northern Minnesota, 27 miles north of Grand Rapids, in the USDA Forest Service Marcell Experimental Forest. The site is located at the southern margin of the boreal peatland forest, it is an ecosystem considered especially vulnerable to climate change. We will work with Randy Kolka, a research Soil Scientist . He will take us through an informational presentation and then a tour of the facility. We will be staying at a local resort, 1 North Cabins. We will also take the opportunity to explore “The Lost 40” as well at the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids. A trip to Grand Rapids would not be complete without a visit to Rapids Brewing Company.
