Contact: We’re looking for a Leader to take the reins in San Francisco! If you’re that Broad, contact our Broadband Coordinator, ellen@greatoldbroads.org.

Bay Area Broads meet for fellowship and to hear from leading voices in the wilderness movement from The Wilderness Society, Sierra Club, and California Wild Heritage Campaign. The threats to wilderness in California are scattered throughout the state, hundreds of miles from the Bay Area, so our intent with an urban Broadband is to encourage individual activism by staying informed, writing letters, and being ready to be called upon when Broads are needed on the front lines to demonstrate, lobby, and pressure government agencies.

At the end of August 2009, some of the San Francisco Broadband took a hiking pole seminar with Jayah Paley, a wonderful instructor and coach. We learned techniques and practiced with different hiking poles so we could go out and enjoy hiking in the wilderness! We also had a potluck lunch and shared stories of our favorite hikes.
