Short Description of Activity

Presentation on 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps Picnic Sites: History and Restoration of the craftsmanship was shown for two picnic areas in the Sandia Mountain foothills. Requirements of the State Historic Preservation Office and US Forest Service authorizing restoration were reviewed as well as the results of deliberate damage to the sites.

Reflection/Evaluation

Personally, I have observed that gates in these popular human-traffic areas don’t keep vandals out. They find ways to break the locks or climb over fences and the vandalism returns. Unfortunately our Sandia Mountains suffer from being an urban wilderness.
