Short Description of Activity

Jenny (Broads) and Gary and Joe (Yavapai Group Sierra Club) went to Perkinsville on the Upper Verde River today along with PNF representative Tobias Hutchins. Tobias has only been on PNF for 15 months so he learned a lot from us today. Jenny and Gary did monthly water Sentinels on June 22 and picked up excessive human waste at Perkinsville resulting in Gary writing a long report to PNF with demands to do something about the problem where people camp and recreate all year long.

Reflection/Evaluation

PNF is doing something! They put out 4 port-a-potties over the Fourth of July weekend which resulted in less human waste when we went out today. We visited with people recreating. Tobias removed several new fire rings and even found a live BBQ and cited the campers. It was 103 degrees but always beautiful on the Upper Verde. I brought the pickers and bags and we picked up four bags of trash which had accumulated over the past two weeks. The dialog continues and PNF will work with us on the problem. We had four vehicles because of COVID and on the way out we spotted a young gal biking from Chino Valley and told her we would stop and pick her up on her way back if she wanted. I drove her back to Chino. She owns two salons in Mesa, 30 years old and there is hope for the younger generation. She was delightful.
