Short Description of Activity

Attended first two modules of webinar training on community organizational tools when advocating for environmental issues. The trainers include CELDF Staff Organizer and a Trained Community Volunteer. The training goes back to the roots of our American government-the US constitution and dialog between founding fathers, and analyzes the obstacles we run into day, as we advocate within our legal “system”. There are two more modules. We were asked to read several articles/documents in preparation-one dated but looking at legal rights of corporations as woven into our legal system-making it very hard to advocate for environmental and human rights.

Reflection/Evaluation

I am learning a lot, including networking with 20 others-involved in various environmental issues across Washington and Oregon. My hope is to come out of this with not just intellectual understanding but some tools to use in my advocacy work with the Broads. We will be touching about equity issues also in next two modules.
