Short Description of Activity

Stage is Scoping. 11/28 drove to mine site in the Kaibab National Forest NE of Williams, AZ accompanied by Sierra Club colleague Stephen Cook to inspect site and determine the following things: condition of existing quarry, nearest house, recreation in area, condition of forest roads, where is nearest water, will mine be visible from houses approximately 3 miles to the west over a hill. The hill however, is part of the 65 acres to be mined over 20 years.

Reflection/Evaluation

yes it was! Needed to see the property, etc., in order to address issues we have with mining the our national forests. We discovered that the quarry is being used as a recreational shooting range – littered with spent shells, beer cans, etc. Hiked the 65 acres high above the quarry floor with the purpose of views to see where the nearest occupied property is. I have many photos if you are interested. Will send you copy of our letter for your files
