Short Description of Activity

Agenda:
This promises to be an exciting and informative meeting. We will meet the new Magdalena District Ranger, Michael Salazar, and hear about his vision for the Magdalena District. We also will get an update on the Cibola Forest Plan Revision, which is nearing completion. And, we’ll hear about the Great American Outdoors Act, which became law on August 4 of this year. This Act, which has been called “the biggest land conservation legislation in a generation,” creates a Legacy Restoration Fund that invests $9 billion over 5 years on public lands to restore trails, campgrounds, utilities and other recreation infrastructure. The Act also guarantees full funding for the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund in perpetuity, paid for by oil and gas royalties. This Act provides a great opportunity to increase recreational opportunities on national forests. We can discuss where the popular recreation sites are on the Magdalena District and what the need is for restoration and upgrading these sites or developing new recreational opportunities on the District.

Reflection/Evaluation

Linda attended this meeting because I was out of town. Her evaluation seemed to be that the meeting was disappointing because the local ranchers, etc. did not attend.
