Short Description of Activity

SUWA sees the Red Rock Wilderness area as a key piece in the 30X30 effort and invited any conservation groups or interested folk to join the discussion about how to pursue it. Shelley and Lauren were there and for Greater Wasatch all 3 of the co-leaders were listening in to the discussion. Many interesting perspectives were presented and questions asked. I subsequently attended a second meeting, 2/25, to go deeper into goals of such future meetings. I’m not going to report or list that one, though.

Reflection/Evaluation

What does ‘protect’ mean? ‘protecting 30% of land doesn’t mean protecting 30% of Nature; is the specific criteria ‘cowed out’ or ATV’d out? Lots of questions. It’s a work in progress. The value for me and my interests are seeing the connections from Canada to Mexico and knowing that supporting this SUWA effort is part of a bigger picture but really important to it. Also, their brochure is excellent, but haven’t read the analysis they contracted out yet.
