Short Description of Activity
Working with statewide Colorado Wolf Coalition to gather information, discuss strategies. Group moved to monthly meetings rather than weekly meetings and Coalition activities changed to members sharing information. Broads prepared a Talking Points documents for members to use when providing written comments to CPW during Summer comment time period. Provided talking points document to members at a Broads meeting and through email. Submitted Broads comments to CPW through the online form. Provided oral comments to CPW Commissioners meeting asking CPW to provide better information on the positive benefits of wolf reintroduction.
Reflection/Evaluation
Not sure how many Broads members used talking points and submitted comments online. It is always nerve wracking to provide comments to group like the CPW commissioners, but practice takes away some of the anxiety. Don’t think I can take full credit for this but 9 days after the CPW commission meeting, the CPW issued a news release that stated “So, our job as the CPW Commission is to ensure that the individuals, communities and counties on the Western Slope that will be most impacted by wolf restoration have front-and-center seats at the table. And, that those who believe the return of wolves to Colorado will have long term positive effects both for the species and the broader ecosystem have confidence that their perspectives are equitably considered.” First time I’ve been any positive wolf comments from CPW.
