Short Description of Activity

Here is what I have been working on lately:
-Researching collaborations, coalitions, working groups-they all seem to have the same function. Decision making in these groups is problematic. If you want to know more, let me know.
-Gathering writings that focus on the Gallatin Yellowstone Ecosystem and have begun to compile them into a reader so people can better understand the area, its’ importance, and why the Wilderness Study Area must be saved and not carved up into an island wilderness that is surrounded by forest service roads and outdoor recreation and human activities.
-Working on our Gallatin Yellowstone Wilderness Alliance proposal
-Photo documenting timber projects in the area that impact wildlife habitat and cut old growth
-Reviewing files of a 94 year old environmentalist for inclusion in the Montana State University Archives for important conservationists.
-Fund raising for GYWA to promote Wilderness
-Wilderness is the gold standard, for wildlife, wildlife connectivity, and humans it is something we must save as much as possible. Getting a wilderness designation now seems hard and many of the large environmental groups have decided to compromise. Through collaborative groups of users (timber, mountain bikers ect) they want to take our wilderness study areas and “manage them”
-The Custer Gallatin Forest Plan ROD is going to be released soon, and based on the draft final it is terrible, and have spent a great deal of time trying to prepare. One of the greatest issues to legally address is can they carve up a wilderness study area?
-Treasurer for the wilderness and wildlife groups that involves banking, thank you letters, gov filings

Reflection/Evaluation

Katya submitted this report to track Nancy’s activities. Her hours are included in reports I submitted for Nancy O.
