Short Description of Activity

Melanie Rees reported spending six total hours at her BLM site monitoring, five in the field and one follow up. Judith Lopez went twice to the Adobe Badlands WSA. Unfortunately people had found ways to circumvent the new barriers put in by BLM to keep 4 wheelers going on to the land and down the slope from the parking lot. They were entering from a road further south and coming along the top to go behind the barriers. There were tracks of 4 wheelers and bicycles. Someone had also shattered old China plates in the parking lot leaving shards of all sizes that could easily puncture tires. Robin Lewis was informed and apparently there is a plan to put additional barriers. She assumed the shards were from target practice up there although at that visit no evidence of gun use was obvious. At the second visit there were many shell casings however. The shards were largely picked up as were the shell casings.

Reflection/Evaluation

The objective to keep these sites from accumulation of visitor trash has been met at least. Continued oversight of areas will be done. Efforts to prevent destruction from motorized vehicles will continue to be monitored.
