Short Description of Activity

Quarterly collaborative meeting; discussion mostly centered on forest restoration projects – CFRPs.
The Mountainair Collaborative meeting was held on October 19, 1:30 – 3:30 pm, via Zoom. The topics covered were an update on the Cibola National Forest Plan and a quick look at Shared Stewardship and the NM Forest Action Plan. The revised Cibola NF Land Management Plan (Forest Plan), Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), draft Record of Decision, and related documents are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/cibola/landmanagement/planning/?cid=FSEPRD932998. The 60-day objection period began with the public notice on Sep 2, 2021. Information on the objection process is available at this link. A pdf of the PowerPoint presentation on Shared Stewardship and the Forest Action Plan is attached. Please note that this presentation does not reflect the official views of the US Forest Service or the New Mexico Forestry Division. It is however, based on these authoritative documents:

The USFS Cibola NF Plan discussion begins at minute 18:45
My presentation on Shared Stewardship and the Forest Action Plan is at 52:30.

Our next Mountainair Collaborative meeting will be in Mid-January. In the meantime, please send me any topics you would like discuss at that meeting or any issues you think the Collaborative needs to be addressing right now.

Reflection/Evaluation

It is frustrating to continue to work with those who cannot approve of even the smallest recommendation for Wilderness for a Wild and Scenic River designation, although the group mostly acknowledges the importance of watershed health and forest restoration that isn’t just clear-cutting. Wildlife corridors don’t seem to be much of a concern for the group either.
