Key Issue: Doesn’t apply
Activity Type: Relationship Building with non-white and/or frontline communities (relational meetings, attending events, community support, etc.)
Key Partners: the Dialogue company Dr. David Campt and Allison Mahaley
Short Description of Activity
Attended 6 hours of training on how to be a white ally to persons of color, by the Dialogue company, a nationally known duo who provided this in Portland Oregon sponsored by multiple ecumenical church congregations. We did a lot of small group and dyad work to look at our own biases and communicate across boundaries and break stereotypes.
Reflection/Evaluation
I gained some tools for communication, some known to me, but new ones useful to cross boundaries created by race and ethnicity-societal structures that have often divided us. Did role playing and practiced tools. Was given some handouts. Presenters were: AFrican american and Caucasian.
