Short Description of Activity

Hike at Steigerwald National Wildlife Refuge

Reflection/Evaluation

We met at the parking lot of the restored wildlife refuge. The refuge has had some major changes to connect Gibbons Creek with the Columbia River. When Gibbons creek floods the area it will provide refugia for salmonoids on their return to the river and on downstream to the Columbia. Since the trees had just been planted they were still saplings and not at all characteristic of the old refuge. I showed them where we had helped plant trees at our Fall Stewardship with Lower Columbia Estuary. We have several new members so it was great to held educate them about the refuge. Sarah was our birder who helped ID over 20 species of birds. The weather was great! I was notified on our hike back that Sally was indeed on the earlier flight from Durango and Lorena (Thank You) drove me to the airport to pick her up. It cut our hike a little short.
