Short Description of Activity

Since 2001, the Indigenous Leadership Awards have recognized 56 outstanding Indigenous leaders for their dedication to strengthening tribal sovereignty and their efforts to uplift the environmental, cultural, economic, and social conditions of their communities and homelands.  Nominated by their community and selected by their peers, these Indigenous leaders come from all walks of life and represent many different tribes, First Nations, languages, cultures, and landscapes.

Reflection/Evaluation

Four Leaders were recognized for the 2022 awards. Two from Alaska, one from the Yakima and another from Umatilla. Their stories were inspirational and an empowering example of what can be accomplished that not only benefits the environment but feeds the cultural and spiritual aspects of the People.
