Short Description of Activity

Source to Sea Event at Kelly Point Park in to welcome paddlers to Portland

Reflection/Evaluation

We had an exciting and fun event with the Source to Sea Paddlers! We met them on the bank of the Columbia River with our banners and shouts of praise and applause! We had a great picnic spread for them which they welcomed from their mundane freeze dried meals! They especially loved the fresh fruit! The day was a comfortable 81 degrees. New Broads and Old Broads joined in the celebration. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the need to breach the dams on the lower Snake River as well as stop the proposed mining in Idaho. Danielle Katz is the leader of the Rivers for Change nonprofit and she met us and contacted the paddlers about where to land. The three paddlers ate lunch and then gave a short presentation about their expertise in paddling as well as their environmental activism. These gals set their goals high and should be enlisted in about 35 years in our chapter! The mood was celebratory and the Cascade Volcanoes gave a huge welcome to the paddlers who were very humble and gracious about receiving the warm welcome! Linda Buckley should be given most of the credit for setting up and organizing the food. Our speaker, Sarah, spoke about the Portland zoning proposal to eliminate fossil fuel construction. The day was a huge success! I have lots more pictures if needed!
