Short Description of Activity
On May 9th, Polly Dyer Seattle Broads gathered in Seward Park to honor Barbara Phalen for her leadership and to celebrate the four-year anniversary of the birth of our Broadband. Barbara held the first meeting of our Broadband at her home on May 21, 2018. This event also marked the transition of leadership from Barbara to the leadership team of Genia Moncada, Barb Muirhead, and Penelope Peterson. Despite unseasonably cold weather, fifteen Seattle Broads brought delicious food and ebullient spirits to their first in-person get-together since the pandemic began. After a warm-up mixer of “Walk in the Park” bingo led by Penelope Peterson, the group sat down to sample the array of delicious dishes that the Broads had brought to share. After dinner, Penelope presented Barbara with a hard copy of a photo book that she had created from photos of all the events of our Broadband over Barbara’s four-year tenure. Then the group enjoyed a special gluten-free lavender vanilla cake from Barbara’s favorite bakery. The inscription on the cake read, “Thank you, Barbara, for 4 Great Years!”
Reflection/Evaluation
This event succeeded in three important ways. First, it served a significant function as a celebratory marker of the transition in leadership of our Broadband. Second, Barbara Phalen was surprised and overwhelmed by this show of appreciation from the Seattle Broads and by the actual gifts of appreciation in the form of the yummy cake that the specially created photo book of Barbara‚Äôs accomplishments as leader. And finally, all who attend enjoyed themselves immensely, thereby meeting our most important objective–to have fun!
