Reflection/Evaluation

Good article. ;Interesting facts on how warming climate dries out and degrades peat, which then releases carbon at a rate 4.5 to 16 times the historical accumulation rates! Peatlands store 2 times the carbon of all the world’s forests. This sort of information and methane release problem studies from warming tundra need to be widely disseminated so that people know the dangers of the faster warming of arctic areas! Predict by end of century we will lose another 36% of permafrost, there will be very few trees in boreal lowlands, moose and caribou will move to drier places. In Canada, drowned boreal forests have resulted in totl loss of beavers and muskrats from the area. Final question, will thawing of permafrost in boreal peatlands be slow moving, gradually releasing greenhouse gases, or become a carbon bomb?????>
