Key Partners: CIRC, Ute Mtn Ute Tribe, HAP, WORC

Short Description of Activity

Continuing to build relations with LatinX and Indigenous groups, leaders and community members. Major focus (on short notice) in April related to the renaming of Squaw Gulch in Ouray County (per Secretary Haaland’s EO.) Also participation in CIRC call and meetings, one-on-ones, and WORC White Caucus. Communication with town staff regarding design of Heritage Park and advocating for Indigenous input and cultural educational signage at site.

Reflection/Evaluation

Major accomplishment to successfully connect Ouray Board of County Commissioners with Ute Mtn Ute Councilman Lyndreth Wall and the tribes Elder Committee (and one commissioner with Regina.) Though that meeting was a milestone, uncertainty remains about authority of the Elder Committee to speak on behalf of the Tribe. As always, I am learning soooo much and becoming more discerning in how I approach relations. Possibility of NSJBB collaborating with HAP on some outdoor activities for HAP members in 2023. Still to be determined.
