Short Description of Activity

Webinar “Public Lands Grazing and Its Climate Implications”

Reflection/Evaluation

The impact of the cattle industry on BLM lands: impact on the land, grass/foliage, erosion, water quality and wildlife/birds.
Restoring grasslands will increase carbon storage.
Providing higher quality if feed reduces livestock emissions.
Oregon cattle 15% value of Oregon Agriculture Commodities but account 64% of GHG emissions.
Restored grass lands improved soil and improved water quality.
Maintain and restore biodiversity, a benefit by removing cattle from western grassland areas.
Felt this presentation was a bit one sided having no Ranchers present and no Indigenous representation.
Yes, conservation and climate change go hand in hand but also a responsible Rancher whose business relies on the health and growth of his product, his livestock, will not find it cost effective to keeping cattle on depleted land offering that offers no nutritional benefits.
Always interesting to hear where people are coming from.
