Short Description of Activity

Micky, Laurie, Linda, Kathleen, Darlene, Jane, and Sarah attended the 2022 Leadership Retreat at Westwind in Otis, Or.

Reflection/Evaluation

The goal of the activity was to engage the leaders of Oregon and Washington in establishing and maintaining relationships with each other in order to learn and assist one another. It was pretty much a reunion of myself and my old Bitterbrush and Willamette Valley Broads. More importantly, it provided opportunity for Sarah, Kathleen, Linda, and Darlene to meet and engage with other Oregon Leaders. I led a hike up the meadow and I actually had 13 others join me (I had no idea where I was going or where the trail began, but my friends with the Valley Gals helped me lead it). I pulled invasive English Ivy and others picked up trash on the grounds. We fed the ivy to the goats, but they didn’t like it either, so it filled up their pen. The director, Missy, was pleased with our stewardship and our clean up of the place, s0 we awarded her an official Broads tshirt (from years past). We had a great presentation from Catherine Dunn with Nature Conservancy and Dan Bottoms regarding the restoration of the Estuary. We went kayaking on Friday morning and hiked on Saturday. The Cascade Volcanoes held a leadership meeting and made some definite plans for the future. The leadership advocacy meeting with Rynda and Micky was excellent and increased some members’ awareness of advocacy ideas for future events. There was plenty of food and spirits, too! Each chapter gave a synopsis of what they had been working on in advocacy, stewardship and fun. Excellent event and lodging arrangements were awesome! I have attached some photos from the event.

Here’s some hot news from Jane and Linda about their cougar siting on the way home:
“It ran across the road in broad daylight (around 3pm) about 15 miles from Lincoln City on the Salmon River Hwy. We felt very safe surrounded by the car, but had to do some serious braking to avoid it. It was BIG?”
