Short Description of Activity

Even month’s meeting of the Routt Recreation and Conservation Roundtable as Routt County stakeholders and agency personnel continue to meet to discuss recreation and conservation in our county. The RRCR is one of many roundtables statewide that Colorado DNR and other agencies use to determine the best possible planning for recreation and conservation. This year the roundtable is working on mapping and recommendations for appropriate areas for recreational and conservation in our county. Currently two broadband members have seats on the roundtable. We represent Quiet use and hiking and Equestrian.
This roundtable originated because of a controversial mountain bike trail proposal on forest service lands in a roadless area and important wildlife habitat. The EA for the Mad Rabbit Mountain Bike trail proposal has not yet been released due to wrangling between CPW and USFS. However, the roundtable has evolved to consider and make recommendations to various agencies concerning recreation and conservation in Routt County.

Reflection/Evaluation

Big wheels keep on turning.
I am looking forward to the evolving GIS mapping and preferences for where to prioritize recreation and other areas to prioritize conservation. I have come to appreciate that popular areas are good places to concentrate activity rather than spreading impacts over a wider area.
It has been valuable to give agency personnel instant feedback on proposals and information.
