Short Description of Activity

A group of 8 responding to request for a 5 day, 4 night, hut to hut back pack in the Uncompragne Forest from Telluride to Ouray. We hoped to spot big horn sheep but only saw a moose on the drive home. We had a blast though!

Reflection/Evaluation

The first day we had to climb over or under 80 logs in the wilderness. A discussion was born on whether the Great Old Broads wanted to partner with San Juan Huts to remove some of these. It would be a very challenging project! The last day the hut was fenced in because it was in an active cattle grazing allotment. The issue was the water source was trampled and contaminated by cows. The intention is to write a letter to the Forest Service asking them to fence the water source off from the cattle and to copy the San Juan Hut system.
