Short Description of Activity

Strategy meeting to get Sen. Wyden’s Owyhee bill passed to protect the Owyhee area/ SEORMP. It has been stalled so looking at how to move forward.

Reflection/Evaluation

This was a strategy meeting to figure out how to help Wyden’s bill move forward as it has been stalled….so next steps is to look at other ways to move forward and looking at how to bring in what the various tribes want to get that is sacred grounds. This is somewhat controversial and so we are approaching this carefully…lots of issue with the Malhuer County folks/ ranchers so buy in is difficult. Will be working on this slowly and the goal is for Wyden’s legislative bill to pass, but otherwise, looking at the Monument proposal as a backup to get the legislative bill passed. Key is getting the various Tribes on board as it is important for their buy in, but also how to assist them with their wanting to protect sacred grounds.
