Short Description of Activity

I filed an appeal of a BLM Project Decision Record that would allow 2 timber sales on mature reserve forest land. Because i filed formal comments on my own behalf and myself as co-leader of the Broadband, I have standing to file an appeal with the Interior Board of Land Appeals when the public is ignored and BLM approves its own actions.

Reflection/Evaluation

My appeal was 24 double-spaced pages, not including the 4 page “standing declaration”. I spent 50-60 hours and lost a few nights sleep because of the importance of what BLM proposes to do to our intact forest system.
Though this Board does not grant stays in any cases we have found, it is the exhaustion of remedies necessary for federal court litigation.
An assertion of the legitimacy of the interest of the Great Old Broads in public land management is always worth the time and energy.
