Short Description of Activity
Grazing monitoring- Canyon of the Ancients National Monument
2/7/ 2023, 2/21/2023 and 2/23/2023.
CO Broadband Leaders Zoom- shared info from Ray O’Neil phone call about Flodine, Yellow Jacket, and Mary Austin allotments. It seems that BLM continued grazing permit without any public notification and will wait till the current permit expires to do a Land Health Assessment on the Mary Austin acquisition. Not much progress on Flodine or Yellow Jacket which won’t be grazed this year. Ray O’Neil mentioned that our Broadband could do a Wilderness Study Area monitoring program and I asked if we could monitor the riparian areas of the Mary Austin allotments. they don’t plan to monitor these areas, maybe we can report on continuing damage of the cultural resources and riparian areas through Back Country Horsemen Trail Stewards and 4Corners Broadband monitoring.
Mesa Verde cross country skiing and snowshoeing trip 2-27-2023- Fun trip to Far View to cross ski and snowshoe with four Broadband members. After, we had lunch at Far View Terrace. Awesome and beautiful!
Reflection/Evaluation
I plan to send a protest letter by March 5th that shares my concerns for continuing grazing the Mary Austin acquisition without providing protections of federal National Monument guidelines. If they don’t plan to monitor these areas, maybe we can report on continuing damage of the cultural resources and riparian areas through Back Country Horsemen Trail Stewards and 4Corners Broadband Wilderness Study Area monitoring.
Mesa Verde Snow Day- Networked with members that have much local environmental activist experience. We have dedicated Broadband members willing to assist on all of our projects.
