Key Issue: Landscape Planning (Forest Plans, RMPs, TMPs, etc.)
Activity Type: Advocacy (rallies, lobbying, meeting decision makers, letters/calls/emails)
Key Partners: Bird Alliance of Oregon, City of Portland
Short Description of Activity
Letter regarding Defending Forest Park where the power company has proposed to clearcut 500 acres to put in power lines that will disrupt the natural vegetation, birds and hiking recreation of this wonderful green space that is so much a part of Portland’s outdoor personality and identity.
There will be public voice and gathering at city hall on 4/17.
Forest Park is an unique natural wonderful green space that defines the character and outdoor personality of Portland. Damage to Forest Park from the project cannot be mitigated. Non-park alternatives exist for locating the project elsewhere.
Having this green space available for all ages, all people, to hike, to bird watch and learn from nature. The project undermines the goal of growing and protecting a self-sustaining forest
City Council must avoid setting a precedent of siding with a profit seeking corporation over the expertise of the City staff report.
Council needs to vote to Protect the Public Good of Forest Park, Support the Appeal and Deny PGE’s proposal
Reflection/Evaluation
Need to speak up. Reported thousands have made their voices/letters heard. Constant fight against corporate greed.
