Short Description of Activity
CO Green Amendment was my focus for the new year and the stars aligned to help me out. First, Jessica Silverman contacted me to sponsor her Internship at Fort Lewis College. She is a senior at Fort Lewis College majoring in environmental and political science. I told her about CO Green Amendment GA and she was all in. We emailed weekly and the activities practically invented themselves! We both signed up to be GA Ambassadors on a new educational platform where we received training and swag to spread GA across CO. Jessie did networking through FLC Environmental Center. I did a League of Women’s Voters Activist meeting at my church and tabled at Community Involvement Expo in Cortez. We both participated in Earth Day Durango- Jessy in the parade with her FLC supporters, Green Amendment signs, and a Great Old Broads for Wilderness banner and me tabling with South San Juan Broadband in the park. I started with 100 sets of GA swag and left with 15 or so. The flyers gave the website for the GA website where people could volunteer at their chosen level. I talked to alot of people and all but one was supportive.
Reflection/Evaluation
I got new Broadband members and contacts from my tabling including Rebecca Samulski- a local environmental hero who almost won a Montezuma County Commissioners seat a few years back with statewide political connections, joined our GA leadership group. We met later at Mama Bear’s and are working on grant opportunities for GA together. I set Jessy up with Sierra Club Southwest Group to work on their social media team and educate about GA. Chris Jahoula joined our GA leadership group and is collaborating with Conservation Colorado. I am continuing to educate people about GA as a statewide protection for public lands.
