Short Description of Activity

As a Coalition Partner with Save the Scenic Santa Ritas, the Tucson Broadband have provided support to their various outreach efforts to prevent the Copper World Mine.
Feb 1, 2025: awareness gathering at Helvetia, AZ to view the ongoing creation of the Hudbay headquarters. 15 attendees from various coalition partners
March 8, 2025: Oak Tree Trailhead hike to Rosemount Overlook with Sierra Club and other coalition partners, including Tohono O’odham Nation. ~50 attendees, including 4 Broads
April 12, 2025: townhall meeting in Sahuarita to provide information to the community that will be most impacted by the mine. ~300 attendees, most of whom did not know what was happening in their backyard. Broads helped with organizing before the event, and registration the day of the event.
May 3, 2025: Rally to Save the Scenic Santa Ritas in Downtown Tucson. Approximately 310 attendees. Speakers included Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, City Councilman Kevin Dahl, Center for Biological Diversity Russ McSpadden, and congressional candidate Adelita Grijalva (daughter of the late Raul Grijalva). Broads helped with organizing before the event, setup/tear down day of, and logistics during. At least 3 news outlets filed stories after the event. At least 6 Broads were in attendance and likely more.

Reflection/Evaluation

All went very well! The turnout and interest from the public continues to grow.

3. April 12 2025 town hall meeting in Sahuarita. Standing room only! It was 95 degrees and these residents were motivated!
4. May 3 2025 rally in downtown Tucson. 92 degrees and people were out in force!
