Short Description of Activity
We visited the Huhugam Cultural Center, the Gila River Indian Community tribal facility for the preservation and display of important cultural artifacts and art. The purpose of our visit was to increase our knowledge of the Community’s history and chat with the staff at the Center. The Community had won an historic water settlement in the early 2000’s that provides them with water from CAP, the Gila River, Salt River and groundwater after 100 years of deprivation. I wanted to arrange a tour for our Broadband addressing their history, their sustainable water and agricultural practices and the Gila River ecosystem restoration that is occuring.
Reflection/Evaluation
The Cultural Center is excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I have the contact information for a tour and will pursue it in the Fall.
