Landscape/area: Chiricahua National Monument (11985 acres)
Short Description of Activity
There was a report of a Lobo depredation event in the ranchland southwest of Chiricahua National Monument. Western Watersheds felt that it was totally bogus. I was going to be in that precise location the next week and told them I would check out the area.
Reflection/Evaluation
Broad Dolores and I visited several of the canyons and backroads in the area. There was no sign of Mexican gray wolves, nor any Wildlife Services, USFWS or AZGFD agency presence. I reported back to WWP.
FYI: Even though we were 30 miles from the Border as the crow flies and 60 miles via road, there was a huge Border patrol presence, including Integrated Survellience Towers. They apparently took exception to us being in the area and decided to follow us, first for 14 miles, then followed us again for another couple of miles.
