Short Description of Activity

The broadwalk include 17 broads and broads-in-training. The attendees all said they learned a lot from the activities. Many were not familiar with all the public lands issues here or with all the beauty of the area. The vermillion flycatcher is now our official unofficial mascot.

Reflection/Evaluation

This was a successful event in that we advocated for an area and helped educate about it. The donation for the event went directly to broads national, which should have been about $1,500, plus a little from the silent auction. Not having the invite sent out to the California broads in a timely matter was a disappointment. Instead of it going out in December or even early January, it didn’t go out until about a month before the event, which was too late. Most people have already planned for spring trips and this is an out-of-the-way area that most people won’t do on a whim. We were prepared to cap at 25 people, so we missed out. I started asking for the invite to go out in November and was told it could be done, but again it was sent out too late. This lack of support from national has completely changed my outlook about how involved I will be with the broads in the future.
