Short Description of Activity
Our not so regular meeting regarding biomass locally. We have concerns regarding projects in Prineville and outside Bend. While they are small in comparision with the larger threats, we still feel we need to educate the community as well as continue our research on the issue.
Reflection/Evaluation
Concerns is bio-energy and bio-mass. The issue in Prineville , Land Watch has taken on as it affects urban growth plans – which the community is up in arms. People don’t want the expansion. Discussed Drax and the subsidies they get which are huge and they get fined all the time for not following pollution and permit rules. The Prineville project wants the facility to be located near a railway as the need to ship lumber over from the valley. They are looking at Juniper cutting but that is not sustainable. We are thinking of putting together a short, brief educational presentation to those who might be interested in learning more. The approach is not to tell Prineville what to do, but let them know some facts.
