Key Partners: Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP)
Landscape/area: Pawnee National Grassland (193060 acres)
Short Description of Activity
Tristan Kubick, entomologist at CNHP, presented “The Vernal Pool Ball”, with amazing slides of organisms that live a short life in springtime pools in the prarie ecosystem, the insects and birds that prey on them.
Reflection/Evaluation
We planned future hikes in the Pawnee National Grasslands to locate vernal pools when there is enough rain to fill them. One of our members lives near the grasslands and can let us know when the rains fill the pools.
