Short Description of Activity
The GNX pipeline litigation went to District 5 appeal courts in New Orleans, Lousianna. I became a declarenent 2 years ago. I have been working with the Columbia Riverkeepers.
Reflection/Evaluation
I got involved on this project that has a gas pipeline that runs from Canada to California. It is less than a mile from my home and runs under a new housing development as well as runs past both a middle school and highschool. The issue is that you want to increase the pressure on this pipeline which was put into the ground in the 1960’s. THe company has a history of explosions, and other safety issues. My comments were in regards to safety, how will they know if there are leaks or potential problems as there is no way to check these things. I know my house would be impacted if there was an explosion as the new housing development. So the judges asked some good questions, don’t feel like they totally bought into GNX’s explanations, so it is now in the courts hands. We are hoping this doesn’t take years to get hold on this.
