Short Description of Activity
Meeting with the committee of volunteers working with Solid Waste department to decide/figure out where the next county/tri-county landfill will be located. The last decision/choice fell thru for many reasons so the county is back to ground one finding a location. The whole issue is pretty contentious due to locations, wildlife corridor concerns, visual concerns and NOT IN MY BACK YARD.
Reflection/Evaluation
This has been going on for the past couple of years. I am glad the last location was shut down as it was in the Badlands, which is a hiking area with lots of concerns for wildlife and gas emissions for traveling. So at this point they have narrowed it down to 4 potential sites. The room was packed with one location which is totally residential farm….makes absolutely no sense to put it there. Two other sites have to do with concerns of sagegrouse and lack of water and electricity. THey would have to haul in water on top of hauling in trash. The other potential site is where there is alot of bike trails. Again, would need to haul in water and electrical is closer, but site is along highway 20. More meetings to continue…the process has not always been very transparent. I am there due to concerns for wildlife corridors and distance from Bend to the site.
