Short Description of Activity
Several of our broadband members participated in the nation-wide Day of Action rally to protect public lands from current threats. We gathered at a designated spot at Gila Cliff Dwelling National Monument, after communicating with the Superintendent. We partnered with the local Indivisibles public lands team. Prior to this several of us gathered to make signs for this rally at the local NM Wild office, and shared current public lands issues news and ideas. We ended our advocacy trip with a short day hike along the nearby Gila River trail. Broadband leader shared the public lands toolkit for some of the other participants as we prepared for this on-site Day of Action.
Reflection/Evaluation
It went well and was lovely day spent in that beautiful and fascinating Natl. Monument. Members of the public whom we encountered were supportive. We had a good conversation with the Superintendent. We did encounter an interested member of a university group from Texas who came over to learn more about the issue. We provided him with background on the threat to reduce Natl. Monuments and threaten public lands in other ways. He took a picture of us holding our signs and was going to share the photo with his group and on social media, and spread the word.
