Short Description of Activity

Several broadband members attended a rally in support of continued protection for the Mexican gray wolf in our nearby public lands. This rally was initiated by CBD and was held in conjunction with a Town Hall with the Governor. We brought signs showing our support. This was partly in response to several counties declaring (false) declarations of disaster regarding false threats posed by this protected animal. During the Town Hall, one of those county commissioners asked the Governor for funds and Natl. Guard help with this (fake) emergency. Then someone spoke on behalf of protection of the Mexican gray wolf. Broadband leader also shared information on a local presentation titled “Will Science or Politics Determine the Future of the Mexican Gray Wolf?”.

Reflection/Evaluation

Went fairly well. After the county commissioner spoke, the audience was polite but relatively subdued. After someone else spoke in support of the Mexican Gray wolf, among other things stating the wolf was posing no emergency or disaster, there was a thunder of sustained applause – with lots of hoots and hollers from our 2 broadband members. We are sure that the audience response registered well with the Governor. In addition, one of our members (among others) wrote an unsolicited op ed in support of this wolf subspecies. We should continue to follow-up with letters to the Governor.
