Short Description of Activity

We met several times to plan for a September 2025 service project gathering, to include two service projects coupled with a broadband camp out. This year our project area is in the far western part of the Gila Natl. Forest (GNF) near the NM/ AZ border. We contacted several GNF staff to discuss monitoring of the Stone Creek restoration efforts, primarily to set up photo points. We are very familiar with this area because it is also one of our riparian grazing monitoring areas, including the nearby San Francisco River. Planning also included a scouting trip by the leader to check out the campground we would be “surveying” for condition of features, and the group campground we could reserve nearby in AZ. Then four of us met to discuss initial planning.

Reflection/Evaluation

Went fine. Planning will continue. The camping will be “rougher” this year without as many amenities relative to what is available in the area, but the main purpose is the service projects. So we don’t expect as many participants this year, but again the goal is to offer a highly relevant service project in conjunction with National Public Lands Day (or thereabouts) and gathering in the group campground afterward.
