Short Description of Activity
Very similar to last month, surveyed 5 areas off of Devil’s Thumb Road. I skipped driving into the first loop road area where I saw from the road there were potholes full of water from the recent storms. I focused primarily on the first two parking lots and surrounding areas. All the other parking areas were surveyed from the road. Overall, there continues to be much less trash than in the past. There were no bags of trash or furniture that had been left. The main trash issues are with gun trash, broken glass and other objects left like beer cans etc. There continues to be misuse of the area in terms of motorized/mechanized vehicles, but none were seen during this visit. The wire barrier at the 2nd parking area which had been repaired, was cut again. The WSA sign behind it was full of bullet holes. I removed approximately 7.5 pounds of trash on this date, almost all from that second parking area lot.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal is to keep the WSA regularly cleared of trash and to report to BLM/WSA staff about the state of affairs. This is being done monthly.
