Short Description of Activity
We started a new project and formed new leadership in June with two orchid walks led by Joyce Stevenson. She took groups to 4 sites including Diane Wren’s trail in her canyon, up on the Glade, and further up north towards Rico. So when Jess Cheadle did a Zoom meeting asking us to participate in Colorado Natural Heritage Program, we were ready with an interested group. At the training at the Dolores Public Library on July 22, we added Marian Rohman a Botanist and author of Plants of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument to our group. Joyce and Marian have already looked up the site and located some areas to visit, possibly this fall.
Reflection/Evaluation
Yes, we’re growing new leadership and new projects. I even met a lady at church who told me she wanted to get out hiking and learn about botany, so we’re getting new members. The popularity of our Walking in the Footsteps of Alice Eastwood Broadwalk has also brought new people to the world of native plants and botany. It’s a great reason to get out and go hiking. Next time we go out, I’ll take pics of people checking out the flowers, not just flower pics!
