Like all Great Old Broads for Wilderness, the Four Corners Broads are committed to wilderness and public lands.  However, we are lucky to live in an area rich with both natural and cultural resources. With Mesa Verde, Canyon of the Ancients, Ute Tribal Park, and Hovenweep on our doorstep, as well as Cedar Mesa, Bears Ears, and Chaco Canyon as close neighbors. we feel very committed to the protection of these important cultural landscapes and our partner relationships reflect this priority.

Focus Areas
Our location, in large part, defines our focus and that focus extends beyond our county boundaries.  We look east to National Forest lands with their myriad of multi-use trails, south and west to some of the most extraordinary cultural sites in the nation, and north to the lovely, but threatened Dolores River.

Projects

• Partner with Montezuma County and US Forest Service in the Adopt-A-Trail program for weed management.
• Partner with Friends of Cedar Mesa for Trail Ambassadors Program and annual service projects in and around Bears Ears.
• Participate with SCCA for Wilderness Study Area monitoring in Canyon of the Ancients National Monument

Broadlights
In 2018 Four Corners Broads:

• Initiated our first annual Broadworks project for Friends of Cedar Mesa; building a fence around cultural sites in Mule Canyon. (photos)
• Organized our first Broadwalk to Chaco Culture Historical Park where we met with Paul Reed, head of the Greater Chaco Project, to discuss what we could do to protect the greater Chaco landscape from oil and gas development.

Wish List

• We are initiating a “live sustainably”  community-based education initiative which we hope to expand in the  coming year.
• We also are hoping to expand our membership through community outreach and by developing more effective communication tools.
• We are looking at strategies to develop a relationship with women in the Ute Mountain Ute community.
